Ben’s Problem

War? Famine? Orphans? Evil? Huh?
For Ben, these things are foreign concepts. He’s used to comfort, ease, and plenty. But life gets real pretty fast when he is dragged along on a break-neck journey through a monster infested Peru. The narrow, naive perception of reality he relies on for peace is shattered, and he is forced to choose: risk personal danger to help Daniel, or avoid conflict and let him face peril alone.
For most of those living in developed countries, it’s easy to encase ourselves in a comfortable, distracted existence—one that keeps us insulated from our own cowardice, indifference to the suffering of others, and general depravity.
In the past two posts (which you can find here and here), I discussed the necessity of hardships (1) for the formation of true character and (2) as a means of bringing us to the end of our self-will. To this I would add that hardships are often designed to make our weaknesses evident, and usually require us to act in courageous, other-centered ways.
How have your responses to trials enabled you to overcome fear and die to self?

Raylin’s Problem

Raylin is a cynical, no-nonsense, I’ll-believe-it-when-I-see-it type of girl. As you can imagine, this causes problems when she and the others are pursued by a supernatural Enemy with seemingly limitless power. She is quickly faced with the dilemma of either trusting Daniel’s Heavenly Father for help, or betting everything on her own strength and cleverness.
